In January 2016 a 5.5 MW Electric Geothermal power plant in Traunreut, Bavaria (Germany) was started up and connected to the grid.

In addition to electrical generation, the plant will supply up to 12 MW of thermal power to the district heating of the local community.

The 5.5 MW Traunreut plant is the fourth geothermal unit installed in Germany, bringing total geothermal power capacity in the country to 20 MWe.
